# Set up Buy back function

**Buy back function** lets customers resell items they don't want from a mystery box back to your store after unboxing, in exchange for a refund. You can choose to refund customers in cash or as store credit.

## Requirements

The box's **Status** must be **Draft** — the settings panel shows *"Box settings can only be edited in draft status"*

If your box is already active, pause it first so you can edit its Buy back settings.

## 1. Enable buyback for a box

1. Go to **Manage boxes**, then open the box you want to set up (it must be in **Draft** status).
2. Scroll down to the **Buy back function** card and turn on **Enable buyback for this box**.

A **Set the buy back limit here** link sits next to the toggle, for quick access to the time-limit setting covered in step 4.

If the box is a **bundle box**, a **Buyback method** card also appears right below the toggle, letting you choose whether customers can **Buy back the entire bundle only** (coming soon) or **Buy back individual items in the bundle** — the latter is selected by default. Single boxes skip straight to Refund method.

## 2. Choose the refund method

The **Refund method** card controls how customers are paid when they resell an item.

- Select **By original payment method** to refund in cash, up to the amount the customer originally paid in cash for the order — any amount above that is issued as store credit.
- Select **By store credit** to add the refund to the customer's store credit balance, for use only in your store.

## 3. Set the trading price

Below Refund method, the **Trading price** card sets how much you pay customers back for each resold item.

1. Enter a **Value** — the percentage of the reference price you'll pay back.
2. Select **Percentage on**: **Original item price** or **Box price**.
3. Click **Save**.

Opening the **Percentage on** dropdown on a single box shows both options:

> **Note:** For a bundle box, **Percentage on** only offers **Original item price** — there's no **Box price** option.

## 4. Set the buyback time limit

1. Go to **General Settings** > **Instantly opening box** > **Buyback limit time**
2. Enter how many hours customers have to resell items, counted from when their order is created.

> **Note:** Once this duration has passed since an order was created, customers can no longer resell items from that order.

## 5. Review the buyback widget content

1. Go to **Content & Translation**.
2. Click the **Buyback widget** tab.

Here you can edit all the customer-facing text for the buyback flow — the popup message, available quantity, resale price, the **Resell** button, and the **Resold** badge shown on the order detail page.

> **Note:** Only edit the text outside the curly brackets — placeholders like `{resell-end-time}` pull in live order data and must stay as-is.
